Blackwood Rotary Library Gloucester Twp. Branch

Organization: Camden County Library System

Description:

The Gloucester Township Library was established in 1957 in a room of the old Gloucester Township School which began as a PTA project operated by volunteers.  As the township grew and changed, the library made a move to the courtroom of the old municipal building located on Church Street.  Then in 1970, following a 10 year fund raising campaign by the Blackwood Rotary Club, a building was opened on Blackwood-Clementon Road.

During December 1976, the library became a part of the Camden County Library System.  With the population still on the rise, the Blackwood Rotary gave permission for the building to be sold and the proceeds donated toward a new facility.  An agreement with the Township of Gloucester and Camden County was reached where the Township provided the building and Camden County would provide services and material.  The new branch opened in May 1989 on the Black Horse Pike, our current location.

Over the years the library has been transformed into a modern facility with more open hours, larger children’s and teen areas, computers for the public,  more programming for all ages and displays to showcase the wide range of the collection.  We look forward to continue serving the community.

Camp Creek Run

Organization: Camp Creek Run

Description:

Camp Creek Run is a state-accredited, dynamic summer day camp program for children ages 4-12. Our summer program's philosophy is embodied in the phrase "Respect for the self, respect for others, and respect for all living things." We believe that instilling a respect and understanding for the natural world fosters a child's connection to community and other human beings. Our strengths lie in the quality and training of our staff and the depth of our programming. We value fun, adventure, creativity, learning, safety, and diversity.

Our summer camp program runs for eight weeks, and children ages 4-12 can enjoy the full eight-week summer program or choose flexible camping sessions. However many sessions your child attends our day camp, you can be sure that their time with us will be fun-filled, educational, and inspirational. Follow the links below to learn more about our summer camp program, including open houses, hours, rates, registration, and photos.

Daytop New Jersey Outpatient Treatment Services (MORRIS)

Organization: Daytop New Jersey

Description:

Intensive outpatient and traditional outpatient treatment services are available for adolescents in our three outpatient programs in Hunterdon, Morris and Ocean counties. Transportation may be provided within a designated area in proximity to each site.

Our licensed and experienced therapists are expertly equipped to deal with the full range of issues facing young people struggling with substance use and/or mental health challenges. Each individual is assessed for the treatment protocol that best meets their needs and a treatment plan is developed that can include individual, group and family counseling, as well as medication assessment. Adolescents can attend three to five times a week, for three hours each day (hours vary by location).

In addition to a stand-alone treatment intervention, outpatient services at Daytop New Jersey can be combined with attendance at the Daytop New Jersey Academy as an alternative to residential placement, for students who need intensive intervention but not necessarily 24 hour/7 day-a-week supervision

Domestic Violence Advocacy and Counseling

Organization: Hispanic Family Center of Southern NJ

Description:

Each year thousands of women become victims of domestic violence. Approximately five million women are physically assaulted or raped each year, while domestic violence leads to other dangerous situations such as stalking.* In New Jersey, Camden County has the highest number of reported domestic violence offenses in the entire state.**  The statistics are frightening. Violence against women spans all economic, racial, religious, and age divides.

Domestic violence victims often need services that go beyond counseling, treatment, and/or advocacy related to the trauma they’ve experienced. Survivors tend to need assistance with emergency housing, transportation, employment services, child care, health insurance, legal representation, immigration/citizenship services, home energy assistance, substance use disorder, and/or mental health treatment – to name a few examples – in order to stabilize their living situation and empower themselves towards self-sufficiency.

For years, the Hispanic Family Center has been providing bilingual, domestic violence advocacy and counseling services to victims of domestic violence through its Proyecto Apoyo (Project Support) program. Since its inception, Proyecto Apoyo has increased awareness of domestic violence, its prevalence, nature and impact; providing avenues for victims and their children to seek assistance, and provide “wrap-around”resources that promote dignity, empower, and encourage self-sufficiency.

Empowering Youth Sessions

English as Second Language (ESL) & Civics

Organization: Hispanic Family Center of Southern NJ

Description:

A key to economic self-sufficiency in the United States, is the ability to speak English. Low English literacy levels can limit employment, educational opportunities, parenting, and civic engagement. Access to these services can lead to citizenship, better jobs, family unification, health care, increased educational opportunities for children and adults, and fuller participation in community – the building blocks of strong communities and healthy societies. ESL/Civics provides contextual instruction on the rights and responsibilities of citizenship, naturalization procedures, civic participation and U.S. history and government while teaching English as a Second Language. Students in the Civics class are well prepared for the U.S. citizenship written exam and oral interview.

For nearly 25 years, the Hispanic Family Center has provided English as a Second Language (ESL) and Civics classes. Students receive intensive English language instruction throughout an eight week cycle, for twelve hours per week; with courses that are offered year round. The organization is committed to providing the community with this opportunity to enhance civic participation and improve economic mobility – to achieve further self-sufficiency. HFC also serves as one of many partners in the Camden County Adult Basic Skills Consortium, which provides comprehensive literacy services to the community. HFC offers its ESL/Civics courses, which are provided for through Title II Services.

The Hispanic Family Center’s LUCES (Latino Unidas Combatiendo la Epidemia de SIDA) program provides HIV and STD prevention services to young Hispanic women between the ages of 18-29 and to persons living with HIV. Healthy Relationships

LIHEAP(Low Income Home Energy Assistance) / Universal Service Fund (USF) Program

Organization: Hispanic Family Center of Southern NJ

Description:

LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance) / Universal Service Fund (USF) Program
The Hispanic Family Center enrolls applicants for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and Universal Service Fund Program in both Camden and Gloucester County.

LIHEAP is a federally funded program that helps low income residents with their heating and medically necessary cooling bills; and provides for emergency heating system services and emergency fuel assistance for those who qualify. Households who live in public housing and/or receive rental assistance are not eligible unless they pay for their own heating/cooling costs directly to the fuel supplier. LIHEAP benefits are determined by income, household size, fuel type, and heating region.

To be eligible for LIHEAP benefits, the applicant household must be responsible for the home heating or cooling costs, either directly or included in the rent; and have a gross income at or below 200% of the federal poverty level. Applications are accepted from October 1st through April 30th.

The LIHEAP application is the same application used for the Universal Service Fund Program (USF). USF is a program created by the State of New Jersey that helps make natural gas and electric bills more affordable to low-income households. To be eligible, the household gross income must be at or below 175% of the Federal Poverty Level, and pay more than 3% of its annual income for electric, or more than 3% for natural gas. If a household has electric heat, it must spend more than 6% of its annual income on electricity to be eligible for the program. Applications are accepted year round.
