These programs offer support and resources for those who have siblings who have special needs. They discuss common concerns and learn more about the life implications of growing up with a special needs family member. Strategies and coping techniques are discussed in handling challenging situations.
Sibshops participants receive peer support and increased self-esteem in a setting of unconditional acceptance. In a venue unlike any other, all of our goals are met by having fun! Games, crafts, and cooking are some of the lively activities that the children use to explore sibling issues. Laughter and smiles " cushion" the seruous topics that typically arise. While validating each child's personal circumstances, emphasis is always placed on the positive.
Sibshops are held afterschool or on weekends throughout the year and are generally 1 1/2 hours in length. Summer schedules vary.
